Sexual intercourse is usually defined as penile-vaginal penetration. The term sex and the phrase "having sex" commonly mean any sexual activity – penetrative and non-penetrative.
Anal and oral sex may be regarded as sexual intercourse, but they, as well as non-penetrative sex acts, may also be regarded as maintaining "technical virginity" or as "outercourse," regardless of any penetrative aspects.
